GKT 1s 8, Queen Mary’s 1s 0

GKT started off 2012, with a solid win over an average IC side. However a question was raised . . . 9 games played, 29 for, 8 against . . . 29 goals… 29 goals!!! Our top scorer(s) has scored a grand total of 4 out of the 29!!! YES. . .YATTAAAAA . . . wait, only 4?? What is going on Σw(゚д゚* )w

I’m sure the whole team is aware, that every player in the team, except for the wing backs a.k.a. Sachin Sharma and Matty Hopey and our one and only, El Capitan Dan Cromb has scored at least 1 goal! Goals from the last game all came from the defenders and midfields! Are our forwards lacking fire power?? (○゚3゚)

Well, this was the day . . . where the dragons inside the forwards had been awaken…ε=(`δ´メ)=3.

Pre-match shenanigans started off with a rare ordeal . . . a bit of misunderstanding and disorganisation led to players sitting in Starbucks and packing at home at the well stated meet time of 14:00 in front of London bridge M&S. On top of that, we were rushed to the train with a misunderstanding that it was going to end up leaving without Jay who had been kidnapped by the ticket machine.

Anyhooooooo. Arrival at the changing room was delayed due to a “locked door” but once we were in, every player was in the zone. El Capitan going through his tactics with a willy on his board was the way it started . . . “don’t be complacent” . . .

. . . in our minds, we felt that this match was potentially going to be an easy win, having beaten QM 7-1 in our 1st game of the season. However there was in no doubt they were up for some revenge as we saw them arriving before us, and waiting on the side of the pitch, waiting for the girl’s 1s to finish their match . . . (We established later, that actually, it was CCC2s on the side of the pitch, who were the team to play the 2s later on…)

Seeing this, El Capitan had to warn us that they were going to challenge us!! So, as excited as always, the new “Pikachu Electric Zap Domination in the 25”tactic was circuited into us…

Changed and out, as always, a well organised warm-up lead by our one and only Sachin Sharma prepared us for the first step onto the pitch, which was going to be filled with electrocuted hockey players (don’t ask…|||;_ _)). Pre-match drills, with the arrival of the opposition completed, it was game time . . .

“Pikachu Electric Zap Domination in the 25” was well delivered in the first 15 minutes. The opening goal was accurately placed by Rapping Dragon Nock Sharma with the wonder reverse stick tail whip into the top right side netting

So dynamic . . . yet so calm . . . Nock’s facial expression à ( ̄_┛ ̄) but his actual expression inside à (* ̄∇ ̄*)/

Then another came from a combination of the “Charmander Dragon” Sachin Sharma unleashing the fireball into the D, with “Rapping Dragon” Nock’s touch directing it more towards goal, and further directed by “Stereotypical Pikachu Dragon” Ryoki Arimoto zapping the post.

Nooooo |||;◯Д〇) /

BUT . . . “take a bite” Dragon Joe Keighley comes to the rescue, not only to decide to slot in goal, but with his reverse claws into the netting!!

To wrap up the “Pikachu Electric Zap Domination in the 25” formation, “Just hatched from the egg” Dragon JG the IInd beautifully crosses it across the keeper to let our “Hulkalicious Green Dragon” Hassan Raja to do a diving shot with his horns to finish.

Great 15 minutes. At this point, it was evident, that although the movement was still there, the fuse in the “Pikachu Electric Zap Domination in the 25” was gone.

3-0 it was at half time.

“Golden King Dragon” Dan Cromb was not in a particularly good mood, as the sky was trembling with thunder and lightning . . . Σ凸(▽曲”▽#)※

It was the anger faced towards the GKT dragons, who had not noticed that the fuse had gone. . .

The 2nd half was enlightened by the breaths of” Golden King Dragon” Dan.

His presence was no doubt evident, with 2 Rainbow breath aerials brightening up the pitch. One of them almost lead to the golden pot as “Rapping Dragon” Nock received it in the 25.

Although only delivering away 5 further goals, the GKT dragons were having plenty of bites.

“Harry Potter’s beloved Dragon” Theo Muth together with “Hulkalicious Green Dragon” Hassan and “JG Dragon the Ultimate” Jason de Gupta was dominating the core of the pitch.

“The Freed Dragon of Narnia” Fergus Catmur, “Galapagos Dragon” Charlie Reeve and “Stereotypical Pikachu Dragon” Ryo were providing superb dimensions down the wings, with several shooting whiskers reaching the claws of “Just hatched from the egg” Dragon JG the IInd who completes the maturation process of becoming “JG Dragon the Ultimate the IInd” by establishing a hat trick.

Not forgetting to mention the “Clean sheet Dragons” at the back with “Charmander Dragon” Sachin, “Sharpest Toothed Dragon” Jay Pach (who also delivered a “down the middle, deflected by defender drag-flick” *quoted by Khush*), “Milk Toothed Dragon” Khush Shah and “Veteran Dragon” Matt Hope providing the base of the attacks with YEEHAAA transfers and “Dragon’s Den” defence.

Finally to mention again the awakened “Final Destruction Dragon” forwards, “Rapping Dragon” Nock, “Take a bite” Dragon Keighley and  “JG Dragon the Ultimate the IInd” Jonny Gabriel (in case people did not have a clue who this debutant was) between them, scoring a grand total of 6!

Post-match events included the team photo with the full house GKT hoodies, as well as the well-deserved treats for “Take a bite” Dragon Keighley and “JG Dragon the Ultimate the IInd” Jonny Gabriel. (*⌒ー⌒)ο∠☆:

Woweee, here ends, the story of the GKT Dragons.

GKT 1s 4, Imperial 1s 1

Fresh from a wondrous winter break, the GKT 1s were keen to build on their impressive first-half of the season, which left them in prime position for promotion and in strong contention for KCLSU’s “Team of the Year.” The first match of the New Year saw the GKT 1s play host to the Imperial 1s in a much-anticipated clash of ULU titans.

Determined to avoid any post-Christmas hangover, captain Dan ‘Big Paws’ Cromb urged his team to unleash their inner feline in preparation for the game. A solid warm-up by the ‘Karmic Cats’ set the stage for some classic Wednesday night hockey.
Despite missing two centre backs to dentistry and senilism, the GKT club once again displayed their impressive depth by slotting in Khush ‘Brown Panther’ Shah and Greg ‘Jew Cat’ Nussbaum in the heart of the defence. The first half was a tight affair, with neither side keen to concede the first goal. A tasty drag flick by Khush off a short corner was the only shot to bulge the twine before the half. 1-0 GKT.

Following a galvanising pep talk and a delightful array of halftime snacks, the 2nd half saw the hosts pick up the intensity, and begin to exert their feline dominance. Led by some unbelievable tekkers by Jason ‘Hear-Me-Roar’ Gupta in central midfield, the GKT 1s pinged the ball around with exuberance and authority. A delicate through-ball by Ryoki ‘Sneaky Jaguar’ Arimoto sent Nick ‘Semi-feral’ Chang alone on a breakaway, only to be outrageously up-ended as he tried to hurdle the keeper. The subsequent penalty flick was calmly put away by set-piece specialist Khush. Arimoto extended the lead to 3-0, receiving a delightful pass from Charlie ‘Fat Cat’ Reeve, and placing it beautifully in the corner, just beyond a diving Imperial keeper and the opportunistic stick of Joe ‘Sabretooth’ Keighley.

Imperial refused to back down, as an opposing player was even sent off for some irrefutable ‘bloody naughty’ behaviour. In fact, he was so bloody naughty, that he was soon greeted with a second yellow upon his return to the pitch. Imperial soon cut the lead to 3-1, courtesy of a rebound goal off a short corner. However, GKT quickly responded when Theo ‘The Prowler’ smashed in a delectable shot off the half-volley. The final whistle brought an end to an impressive display by the hosts, who were keen to continue their unbelievable tekkers off the pitch and into the night. A ridiculously pre-mature Guy’s Bar queue failed to faze the 1s, as Harry ‘Dirty Cat’ Edwards graciously offered to host a night of fun-filled, DSB-free activities. Let’s just say that a potential CATastrophe was avoided (my apologies)! You stay classy, GKT.

Final score: 4-1

T.I.T.S & Freshers’ Tour 2011 January 3, 2012

T.I.T.S (5-6 Nov)

Our 2012 trek down to Southampton for the Tournament In The South (TITS) rode off the considerable success of the 2011 tournament in which GKT first got a piece of the action. The force was strong with GKT as we headed down to Southampton with two full hockey teams kitted out in Jedi attire. It was after we arrived and demolished a delectable curry that tradegy would strike. As Jet and Megan fell victim to The Goon, Cpt Jack fell victim to the dark side of gin, and Clowns fell victim to a destructive game of La Di Da, we descended into the wretched hive with scum and villainy that was Jesters. Needless to say, a hazy but delightful night pursued.

However, after Jesters struck us down, GKT became more powerful than TITS could possible imagine, and after a night of close quarters and a breakfast of much bacon, we arrived at the pitches in full force. Kicking our hangovers, GKT embraced the TITS spirit and joined the other universities in properly debaucherous hockey in which the infamous flabongo took flight, freshers found true love and weren’t raped at all, the dance craze called ‘the Pidgeon’ swept the nation, the Baywatch-barrage was perfected, and Jet’s crotch was seen by all.

Hockey-wise, both teams fought bravely with Team 2 clinically dispatching their opposition to find themselves in the quarter finals facing a P-flick competition. Despite Saarth (Vader)’s best attempts to ruin everything, Chowdhury proved his skill as a fully-armed and operational keeper and carried the team to the semis. However, luck would not be on our side as a wookiee of an umpire and a few unlucky touches would see the last chances of GKT’s chances to reach the finals slip out of our grasps.

After a pub dinner and more than a few for the road, GKT headed back with their love for TITS reinforced with carbonite. Until next year!

Freshers’ Tour (18-20 Nov)

Haggis, bagpipes, kilts, and gingers- tour this year was not to Callum Baxter’s sex dungeon, but Edinburgh,  Scotland.  ‘Tossing the caber’ jokes aside, we went north, and we were “so bloody naughty” (Gupta, 2011).

Disciples of GKTHC assembled at Guy’s for 8am in full ‘Wild West’ regalia, as was our theme this year.  True to form, this years 1st XI proved how not cliquey they are by all dressing as Native American prostitutes, a move inspired/enforced by DJ ‘Red Spinning Disc’ Cromb.  Freshers donned their cow onesies, carried £400 worth of gin onto the bus, and we were on our way.  As a follower of the ‘the coach journey is the best bit’ philosophy, the next ten hours were immense.  Several stops meant more members of the public were permanently scarred, and more communal ginnings were required to keep order.

Our accommodation was right in the centre of the city, with views that brought many to tears- nothing to do with room allocation drama.  Having unpacked our things, command was handed over to the girls’ social secs, who had organised a lovely Chinese buffet for us ‘just down the road’.  A two mile walk later, and we were scoffing chow mein like true cowboys.  The night out culminated in dancing the night away with a host of spotty Scottish teenagers and some terrified looking Asian girls.

The next day, to beat the hangover, and provide a free and cultural activity for Saturday morning, it was decided that the tour freshers would run up Arthur’s Seat, a 251m volcanic rock next to Edinburgh, chased all the way by gin.  Eventually, after witnessing the 1st XI (now all wearing tweed) perform a fitness test ahead of the freshers, the whole club assembled on top of the hill for scenic club photos, and to the horror of the scattered tourists, another mass ginning.  After this warmup and some lunch, we played hockey against Edinburgh Medics and Vets.  Naturally, we won, though the score, duration, or quality of the match is a mystery.

That evening we met up with Edinburgh at a bar, observed some drinking games, and moved onto their students union, a glass domed shopping centre serving drinks.   Mr. Cromb managed his childhood dream of safe sex promotion, when he was allowed to be the ‘Safe Sex T-Rex’, and handed out more condoms than Scotland has ever seen.  Battling through a maze, the club section was found and GKT boogied the night away.  Except Tom Bloomfield – a criminal who hates Edinburgh Students Union (GMC investigation looming).

The Sunday saw a trip to Edinburgh Castle, souvenir shopping and an epic booze run, before getting back on the coach and beginning the return leg of the trip.  Nine hours of debauchery followed, and the girls learned that Pringles tins are the perfect she-wee.   Upon getting back to London, we finished the gin together and said our goodbyes, as DC was closed.  A brave few survivors made it to the Blue Eyed Maid, where the club captain bought several bottles of wine ‘to go’ at last orders.  Reports of ASBO behaviour in Guy’s Quad are probably true, and were an excellent culmination to what was a cracking tour.

GKT 1s 1, RUMS 1s 2

For the second ULU league fixture this season, the buoyant GKT 1s played host to the Gower Street Polytechnic medics from RUMS. As they arrived in dribs and drabs, they were greeted by the most intense GKT warm up in living memory. Captain Dan ‘safe sex T-Rex’ Cromb was happy to welcome back into the GKT ranks the less scouse sibling of Sachin ‘the charmer’ Sharma – Nock ‘1000 bhp’ Sharma was hungry for goals.

The intense GKT warm-up somewhat backfired as we were a little slow out of the blocks. A few cheeky aerials here and there impressed upon the opposition they quality they would be facing, and they duly stepped-up their game – a stalemate in the first half.

Half time saw Captain Cromb give the troops a right old telling off. His Victorian workhouse demeanour clearly had an effect as a penalty corner was converted shortly into the second half by Theo ‘call me Muth’ Muth. RUMS duly fought back with some sort of confusing lob play that flummoxed not only our defence but also the umpires. Pressure from RUMS continued and a second defensive lapse saw RUMS take the lead. GKT 1s had their backs to the wall and pressed hard for the next 20 minutes, with Khush ‘I am starting to love teeth’ Shah stepping into midfield and being awesome.  Chances went begging and a very frustrating second half saw the match end in a 2-1 loss for GKT.

Spirits were only briefly low however. Christmas dinner was but a few hours away and the ludicrous fancy dress that followed saw sexy butlers hanging out with LMFAO (the 3s), Lederhosen-clad hill people (the 2s) and some weird foliage and other unimaginative Christmas attire (DSBs).

Merry Christmas.

UCL 1s 2, GKT 1s 1

After having finally been allowed the luxury of a home game the previous week, GKT 1s were back on their travels to face a very strong UCL 1st team who had vanquished them 8-2 in the final of last season’s ULU Challenge Cup and were currently sitting at the top of the league above our intrepid explorers. Following numerous last minute drop-outs captain Dan ‘The Dinosaur’ Cromb also had the chance to show the strength in depth at his disposal by bringing a number of players up from the 2s and handing a long overdue debut to Callum ‘The Flying Scotsman’ Baxter.

Lulled into a false sense of security by a warm-up dominated by the omnipresent GKT headbands the home team expected an easy win. However, within minutes they realised they had a contest on their hands as GKT started with the verve that has become characteristic of their season thus far. Some narrow misses from Joe ‘Take A Touch’ Keighley and Fergus ‘The Catburglar’ Catmur were matched at the other end as waves of UCL attack came up against the unassailable wall that is Captain Cromb. The teams went in at half time 0-0, with GKT clearly the happiest with this result.

Galvanised by yet more intermission Jelly Babies and pre-sliced oranges GKT knew that this league and cup double-header could swing their way if they maintained their intensity from the first half. However, UCL had other ideas and upped their tempo resulting in 2 goals in the first 15 minutes of the half.

Jason ‘The Game-changer’ Gupta chose this moment to grasp the game by the scruff of the neck and went on a number of lung-bursting runs from the heart of midfield, one of which found veteran Hugo ‘The Most Attractive Man In Hockey’ Penny who finished with aplomb to reduce the deficit. For the following 5 minutes GKT were very much in the ascendency but sadly they couldn’t make the pressure count and the rest of the game was played out in and around the GKT ‘D’ with sterling work from Khush ‘I Can Play Anywhere’ Shah and the ubiquitous ‘Dinosaur’ Cromb somehow helping to edge the game out as a tight 2-1 loss.

Despite registering just their second loss of their season, GKT spirits were high at the full-time whistle as all were aware of the excellent shift that had just been put in against a very good team. The jubilant atmosphere continued into the evening as all present were entertained and enthralled by the vast array of hockey club penises on display from the Dancing Boys 2011. Top work.
